I enjoy teaching children and have a firm, easygoing teaching style. My approach is to focus on creative solutions to increase each child's level of academic confidence. My goal is to help them develop excellent academic skills and study habits. I work closely with students to gain an understanding of the specific approach that will work best for them to achieve lasting academic success. I promote a deep understanding of concepts through encouragement and helping students find new ways to look at a topic. I also help students gain new perspectives and a comprehensive understanding of each subject.I specialize in teaching mathematics and English to elementary students, including reading, writing, phonics, and grammar. I am skilled in teaching test prep, including preparing for the SSAT (Secondary School Admission Test) as well as the lower and elementary level ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam). I am also available for summer tutoring. I have eight years of experience substitute teaching kindergarten through fourth grade students in the Mukilteo and Edmonds school districts. I studied Language Arts at Seattle Pacific University, earning both a bachelor's degree and a teaching certification. I homeschooled my two sons when they were young. My interests and hobbies include reading, running, walking, and music.
